Free Plan & Usage Billing

How billing and charges work on the free plan with usage charges

Updated over a week ago

General

How does Free plan pricing work?

A certain number of bundle orders each billing period are completely free.

After that, you're charged a small per-order fee for additional bundle orders, up to a monthly cap.

You'll never pay more than the cap in usage charges in a single billing period. Your specific limits are shown on the billing page inside the app.

What counts as a "bundle order"?

Only orders that contain at least one Biscuits Bundles product count toward your usage.

Regular orders without bundle products, or with other apps bundle products are not counted and won't affect your usage or charges.

What happens when I cancel an order that contained a bundle?

Cancelled orders still count towards the order limit because they are logged and accrued immediately.

This helps us cover costs as even though the order is cancelled, we still had to process all related actions on our end.

Usage & Charges

When do usage charges start?

Usage charges begin once you exceed the number of free orders included in your plan. Everything up to that limit is free.

If you don't go over the limit, you won't be charged.

Is there a maximum I can be charged?

Yes. Usage charges are capped at a fixed amount per billing period.

Once you've reached this cap, you won't be charged for any additional bundle orders until your next billing period begins. Your cap amount is shown on the billing page.

How do I know how many free orders I have left?

A usage card is on both the home page and billing page. It displays how many of your free orders you've used along with a progress bar.

You'll also receive notifications when you're approaching and when you've reached your free order limit.

What happens after I hit the cap?

Once your usage charges reach the monthly cap, no further charges accrue until the next billing period.

You'll see a message confirming "Monthly cap reached - no further charges this period."

Your bundles continue to work normally.

Billing Cycle

How long is a billing period?

Each billing period is dictated by Shopify as is 30 days, starting from when you subscribed.

This is independent of your Shopify subscription billing cycle, though charges appear on your regular Shopify bill.

See App billing cycles for more detail.

When does my usage count reset?

Your order count resets to zero at the start of each new 30-day billing period. Unused free orders do not roll over.

You can see your current billing period dates on the Usage page inside the app by clicking 'View billing details' on the usage progress card.

How are usage charges billed?

Usage charges are added to your regular Shopify invoice.

Because the app's 30-day billing cycle may not align exactly with Shopify's billing cycle, usage charges from one app cycle might appear across two Shopify invoices.

See App usage charges in Shopify's documentation for more details.

When are usage charges actually collected?

Charges accumulate during the billing period and are billed at the end. They appear on your next Shopify invoice. You won't be charged immediately for each individual order.

See Shopify's billing cycle documentation for how this interacts with your Shopify subscription.

Upgrading & Plan Changes

How do I stop usage charges entirely?

Upgrade to a paid plan for unlimited bundle orders with no per-order charges. Paid plans include unlimited orders at a flat monthly rate.

If I upgrade mid-period, what happens to my pending usage charges?

When you switch from the Free plan to a paid plan, any pending usage charges already accrued during the current period will still be billed at the end of that period.

Going forward, you'll have unlimited orders on the new plan.

See App prorating, upgrades, and downgrades for how Shopify handles plan changes.

Can I downgrade from a paid plan back to the Free plan?

You can switch plans, but if your current usage (bundle count, features used, etc.) exceeds the target plan's limits, the app will show you what needs to be adjusted first.

For example, if you have more bundles than the Free plan allows, you'll need to reduce your bundle count before downgrading.

Limits & Restrictions

How many bundles can I create?

Each plan has a bundle limit (the number of bundle products you can create/manage). You can see your specific limit on the billing page. If you reach your bundle limit, you'll need to delete existing bundles or upgrade to create more.

What happens if I'm over my bundle limit?

If you're over the limit (e.g., after a downgrade), you won't be able to save changes to your bundles or create new ones until you reduce your count. You can delete bundles from the Shopify admin or upgrade your plan.

Are there feature differences between plans beyond order limits?

Yes. Higher-tier plans unlock features like volume discounts, advanced layout options, pre-selected/required variant settings, additional languages, and more card editor templates. The billing page shows a full comparison.

What happens if I uninstall the app?

Any outstanding usage charges will be billed as part of your Shopify invoice.

Can I increase my usage spending limit?

Usage charges are capped at a set amount determined by the plan. If your spending reaches the cap, no further charges apply until the next billing period.

Think of it as "you've now reached unlimited orders" for this billing period.
